Russia-Ukraine Crisis: Worried parents seek Ministry’s intervention to evacuate stranded Manipuri students

The concerned parents and guardians submitted a letter to the Minister of State for External Affairs and Education RK Ranjan Singh on Friday.

Concerning the stranded students from Manipur studying at various universities in Ukraine, parents and guardians of 11 students on Friday appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs and Education to evacuate them for a safe return to the country.  

The concerned parents and guardians submitted a letter to the Minister of State for External Affairs and Education RK Ranjan Singh on Friday. 

The letter stated that their wards were unable to leave in time due to various reasons and the main reason being immediate closure of the airspace due to the present situation in Ukraine.

“We are greatly affected because of the aforementioned situation and concern for our wards' safety. Therefore, we humbly request your good self to kindly initiate the necessary proceedings and help us at this time of urgency and emergency,” it mentioned.

The letter also mentioned the list of the Manipuri students stranded at war-infested Ukraine, awaiting immediate evacuation.

According to a report received by the media, the parents also expressed their desire to get an official hotline and contacts that could give the latest news about the safety measures taken up for the students.

Sources also pointed out that earlier there was a plan to shift the Indians accommodating 50 people per bus with two guides each towards Hungary or Poland by road, however it was compelled to withdraw as the intensifying situation of war had to close the borders of the country.

The deeply worried parents of the young students also expressed their desire to know the steps to be taken up by the Centre to ensure the safe return of the students who are mostly doing their medical courses in Ukraine.
