Rongmei CSOs on Monday reiterated its demand for an alternative arrangement of shifting district and police administration to Noney district for the minority tribes settled in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi district, Manipur.
The Rongmei CSOs strongly urge the state government to implement and address the grievances so that the aspirations of the people may be honored, stated a release issued by the Rongmei Naga Council, Manipur (RNCM-NTL).
It cautioned the government that failure to address the grievances within this month will lead to a wave of democratic agitations at the best interest of the deprived section of communities.
It recalled that memorandums were submitted during the meetings with Chief Minister N Biren Singh with RNCM-NTL, RNSOM, Rongmei villages chief/chairman associations, Churachandpur and Kangpokpi of Ntayphay Luangrian (Foothills), Manipur on December 23, 2023 and June 15 , 2024 regarding the demands.
An alternative arrangement was sought for shifting district and Police administration to Noney district for the minority tribes settled along the old Cachar/Tongjei Maril Road and NH-37 which are presently under Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts respectively for administrative inconveniences, it stated.
The people mentioned in the said areas have been deprived of political and economic privileges for the last several decades, it mentioned.
“We are grateful that a positive response was also given by chief minister N Biren Singh to speedily address the grievances raised during the meetings,” it added.
