A couple riding a two wheeler (Honda Activa) were left critically injured in a road mishap that took place in front of Wahengbam Leikai Lairembi, under City Police Station, Imphal West around 9 am on Sunday.
The mishap occurred when the couple riding their Activa (MN01AB-6101) which was coming from the traffic point at Sagolband road, attempted to cross the road when a tipper truck (Tata tipper) (AS11BC-6752) coming from Keishampat was also approaching on the other side of the median.
As per a video of the accident which got circulated on social media, the truck that was carrying earth and stones, took a quick turn and swerved in order to avoid a collision with the Activa but tipped over and fell on its side, almost crushing the two wheeler vehicle.
SP Imphal West S Ibomcha arrived at the site and joined the passersby and local nearby residents in their attempt to rescue the couple. Using a crane to pull up the vehicle and by removing the stones and earth, both the injured were pulled out with much difficulty.
They were rushed to RIMS but referred to Shija as their conditions were critical. The couple has been identified as Irengbam Gitaranjan, 50, and Manihanbi ,46, of Uripok Yambem Leikai.
