Raphei Katamnao Long, in coordination with the Northern Raphei Students’ Union, has closed the NHIDCL office situated at Khamphasom, Ukhrul on Wednesday for failing to repair the dilapidated Ukhrul to Jessami national highway 202.
It is worth mentioning that the student body had on July 3 served a seven-day deadline to NHIDCL to repair the lifeline, warning that failure to allocate all the required necessary resources and support to expedite the repairing work would led to closure of office.
Speaking to the Imphal Free Press late Wednesday evening, Paomi Khaveishang, president RKL said the union has been appealing NHIDCL to look into the long neglected Ukhrul to Jessami road conditions which is in need of major repairing.
The general public are at the receiving end of these ill-maintained lifeline. But even after making a series of appeals, till date, let alone progress, there is no sign of maintenance by the corporation to improve Ukhrul to Jessami highway, Paomi Khaveishang said.

Following their lackadaisical attitude, the union is compelled to closed their office for failing to comply with our earlier deadline, Paomi stated, while adding that the road has been long neglected.
NHIDCL is a corporation mandated to repair and ensure quality national highway.
Recently RKL in its letter addressed to the general manager, NHIDCL Ukhrul lambasted that the dilapidated conditions of the existing road has significantly disrupted the populace livelihood and hugely inconvenienced people plying along this lifeline.
The union maintained that it had sent series of previous official communication to NHIDCL including the recent ones to streamline the problem faced by the populace.
It also urged the concerned corporation to ensure that decisive and prompt action is taken in the interests of the populace.
The Imphal Free Press on July 3had reported on the prevailing road conditions under the caption “RKL warns NHIDCL for neglecting NH 202.”
It maybe pointed out that the poor road condition has greatly inconvenienced the public. The road is filled with potholes, water logging and has developed crack in several routes. These has caused nightmare to patients and daily commuters who hit this road.
Populace has been demanding the concerned authority to look into their genuine distress.
