Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Jagat Prakash Nadda, virtually inaugurated a Tobacco Cessation on Tuesday as part of the Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 2.0, marking a significant step towards reducing tobacco use among the youth.
The centre is established at the Department of Psychiatry, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal as part of the National Tobacco Control Program (NTCP), stated a release.
The newly inaugurated Tobacco Cessation Centre at RIMS, Imphal will offer a range of services designed to assist individuals in overcoming their dependence on tobacco, including personalised counselling sessions, nicotine replacement therapies, and mental health support, it mentioned.
The Tobacco Cessation Centre at RIMS, Imphal, is another critical milestone in India’s on-going efforts to build a tobacco-free nation. The National Tobacco Control Program has been instrumental in reducing the prevalence of tobacco use across the country by implementing public health policies, regulating tobacco product sales, and establishing cessation centres, it stated.
Director of RIMS, Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital, Professor N Sanjib, Associate Professor & Head of the Psychiatry Department, RIMS, Dr S Gojendra, and Assistant Professor & Head of the Clinical Psychology Department, RIMS, Dr Sameeta along with faculties, staff, and students of RIMS, among others attended the programme, reflecting their support for this critical public health initiative, it added.
