A day after the Assam Petroleum Mazdoor’s decision to stop the supply of petroleum and diesel to Meghalaya, the Ri Bhoi district police have decided to deploy an escort team for an oil tanker from Jorabat to different parts of Meghalaya.
Earlier, the Assam Petroleum Mazdoor said that due to the prevailing stray incidents in Meghalaya, they fear plying through the National Highway and that they had also written, demanding security for the Association members plying into the state.
However, due to the shortage of petroleum and diesel supply in Meghalaya, people rushed to refill their tanks wherein the Police department of Meghalaya had taken the initiative to provide security to the oil tankers coming to the state from Jorabat.
Joint Secretary of Petroleum Dealers Association, Sanchet Surekha told the media on Friday that the supply of petrol and diesel by Assam Petroleum Mazdoor has been stopped due to a series of agitation going on in the state and so the drivers fear any untoward incidents in the highway.
He also said that after the Meghalaya Police department agreed to deploy security, the Association has continued to supply oil to Meghalaya where over 40 oil tankers will enter Meghalaya for oil supply.
The association expressed gratitude to the police and the state government of Meghalaya, he said.
