Return paddy fields to farmers of Yaithibi Loukon: Federation of Haomee

Since the sports university had been shifted to Koutruk, the farmers of Yaithibi Loukon were demanding from the state government that their lands and paddy fields be returned to the owners, Federation of Haomee stated in a release.

The Federation of Haomee has urged the authority concerned to return the paddy fields belonging to farmers of Yaithibi Loukon, Thoubal since the proposed sports university at the Yaithibi Loukon has already been shifted to Koutruk, Imphal west.

The farmers had donated their land as the Sports University was first proposed to be set up at Yaithibi Loukon, Federation of Haomee stated in a release.

Since the sports university had been shifted to Koutruk, the farmers of Yaithibi Loukon were demanding from the state government that their lands and paddy fields be returned to the owners, it stated.

It stated that the state government under the chief minister N Biren Singh has taken up initiatives to save the paddy fields in the state under The Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2014.

"However, against the demands and interest of the farmers, certain individuals have been planning to set up a Mega Food Park at Yaithibi Loukon. Therefore, the chief minister should look into the matter," it stated.  

Such a plan to set up a Mega Food Park is against the interest of the farmers and it cannot be termed as development, it added.
