The Central and state government must deploy paramilitary forces at the most required areas where innocent civilians are living in fear of facing an attack by suspected armed militants, United Mother Organisation president Moirangthem Sorojini has said.
Sorojini was speaking to the media at the head office of the Federation of Civil Society Organisation (FOCS), Manipur located near Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, Imphal East on Monday.
She said many people staying in the peripheral areas of the state are still going through panic as an
impact of the ongoing ethnic communal crisis.
People staying in the peripheral areas are demanding to provide proper security, especially during the night time as some suspected armed militants are continuing to threaten the villagers by shooting at them during the night time.
If the government is unable to provide proper security for the protection of the villagers, then arms
should be distributed to the villagers so that they can protect themselves, she said.
Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup, general secretary Laishram Mema said that the government has
already deployed paramilitary forces in the state to control the present communal crisis.
Instead of Khwairamband market areas, the paramilitary forces need to be deployed at peripheral areas where villagers are still living in fear, she said.
She further said that the people of Manipur will never support the demands of 10 MLAs on separate
administration within the state.
