Expressing concerns that the Mt Koubru issue has been taken out of context to fan communal flames between communities, the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has appealed to the people of Manipur to respect each others’ religious beliefs and sentiments. It also strongly urged all to refrain from making statements of any kind that could provoke communal feelings or unrests.
Secretary, information and publicity KIM S Gouminlun Gangte said that the sacredness of Mt Koubru in the religious beliefs of certain communities is understood and cannot be denied. Pilgrims and worshippers going to Mt Koubru must not be disturbed, he said.
KIM also clarified that no temples were burnt or desecrated as misinterpreted by some people. He added that the arson at Chowkidar Seikhogin Kipgen's quarter occurred due to a family feud and it was perpetrated by his own relatives. It should not be misconstrued as a burning of a temple, he added.
The Kuki Inpi Manipur also appealed to the state government and the Committee on Protection and Preservation of Mt Koubru to chalk out a plan so that an amicable solution is reached and the issue under any circumstances must not disturb the communal peace and harmony in the state.
