Manipuri Youth’s Forum of Assam (MYFA) on Monday launched a poster campaign demanding the recognition of Manipuri language as an associate official language of Assam.
As adopted in a joint meeting held on June 14, MYFA president Seram Herajit launched the campaign from MYFA head office in Rongpur Part II, Silchar.
Speaking at the occasion, Herajit expressed disappointment that there is no provision of applying government jobs in Manipuri even though Manipuri is studied as a language in Assam.
He also sought support from every Manipuri across the globe towards the demand of MYFA.
Secretary general, MYFA, Okram Lakhikanta cautioned that MYFA is prepared to launch a series of intensified protests along with CVOs until Manipuri language is made the associate official language of Assam.
“The Assam government has been apathetic towards our culture and identity as we are a minority community in the state,” he lamented and sought people’s support and cooperation for fulfilling the demand. MYFA members were also present during the campaign.
