Readers raise funds for displaced persons

Readers of Books & Brains Library, Keishampat raised a fund of Rs 1,51,937 to assist those in need.

In an effort to support the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by the ongoing crisis, the readers of Books & Brains Library, Keishampat raised a fund of Rs 1,51,937 to assist those in need.

The team visited Moirang Konjengbam Leikai Community Hall Relief Camp, Moirang Shribon Leikai Community Hall Relief Camp, Wangoo Sellungkhong Upper Primary School Relief Camp, Thangalawai Awang Leikai, Khongnang Makhong Relief Camp, all in Bishnupur district and Wangoo Chingonglei Makhong Nongyaikhong Relief Camp in Kakching District on Sunday and extend the help, stated a release on Friday.

The activity was carried out after hearing about the unmet needs of the IDPs including medicines, books, school uniforms, nutrients for children, winter essentials, baby carriers, feminine hygiene products etc., it stated.

Staff and students of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Chingmeirong also accompanied the team during the visit and donated 50 blankets to the IDPs, it mentioned.

Over 30 ardent readers of the library raised donations from several shops, government and private offices above the monetary contributions, which came in from Manipur and outside the state, it stated. It also added that the leftover amounts will be used for other relief camps and appealed to the people to extend their help in whatever way possible.
