The district programme officer ICDS Cell Tamenglong under the department of Social Welfare on Monday launched Rashtriya Poshan Maah in Tamenglong district headquarters.
Deputy commissioner Tamenglong Pawan Yadav, district immunisation officer Tamenglong Dr Sunil Kamei and district programme officer, ICDS Cell Tamenglong M Sobha Devi attended the event as chief guest, guest honour and president of the function respectively.
After the programme, deputy commissioner Tamenglong Pawan Yadav flagged off the Poshan Maah rally to Jadonang Park. The rally was attended by Anganwadi workers, helpers and ASHAs.
Speaking as the chief guest, Pawan Yadav said that Posan Maah was launched in 2018 to create awareness about nutrition at the grass root level with the convergence of three-four departments, including Education, Medical and PHED etc.
Rashtriya Poshan Maah programme also aims to increase nutrition awareness among mothers of young children, adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating women, family members, he said.
Earlier, Poshan Maah was focused only on children but now it focuses on various sections of society to achieve specific targets for reduction in low birth, weight babies, stunting growth, under nutrition and prevalence of anemia over the next three years, he mentioned.
District immunization officer Tamenglong Sunil Kamei and district programme officer, ICDS Cell Tamenglong M Sobha Devi also spoke on the occasion.
