An infuriated mob comprising locals and relatives of the girl student of Saina Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), who was allegedly kidnapped and raped by the institute’s MD Yumnam Surjitkumar, stormed the institute at Porompat, Imphal on Saturday.

The protesters alleged the institute of conducting normal classes by turning a blind eye to the pain and suffering of the victim and her family.

They also verbally attacked the police, who rushed to placate the situation, by alleging that the police are not sincere enough to arrest the accused and the co-accused.

According to the protesters, the main accused Surjitkumar remained absconding after destroying the life of a student.

They vandalised two four-wheeler vehicles parked in front of the institute and other properties of the institute like chairs and documents.

Subsequently, the police chased down the protesters and picked up as many as 13 of them.

Vehicular movement along Porompat DC Road from Old Checkon traffic point was disrupted owing to the protest.
