The main duty of a peoples’ representative is to serve the public sincerely with respect and not to mount unnecessary propaganda against his or her election opponent, said Thangmeiband MLA Joykishan.

He was delivering the chief guest speech during the inauguration of the new shrine of Ebudhou Moirang Pokpa at Nagamapal, Imphal West on Wednesday.

Joykishan pointed out that the main cause of several incidents of pre-poll violence happening in different assembly constituencies is due to launching of election campaigns too early.

According to the MLA, the election campaign should be started only after issuing the election notification by following the guidelines given by the Election Commission for a peaceful, free and fair election.

He also urged the public to stay alert “from those politicians who were hiding during the Covid pandemic.” How can they become leaders when they are hiding while the public is suffering? he questioned.

Being a politician is not a simple task, the person has to stick to certain ethics with a sacrificial spirit, he further said, while adding that winning the election is simple if the public has trust in the candidate.

Joykishan also appealed to the general public to support anyone who takes up developmental works in their respective localities.

Expressing his profound happiness for being able to serve the people of Thangmeiband assembly constituency, which he compared to serving the almighty, he expressed his commitment to take up various development works in the assembly constituency without any biases.
