Radio Nongin, which is being broadcasted at 90.8 MHz FM channel, on Tuesday celebrated its 2nd foundation day at JN Manipur Dance Academy in Imphal with live presentation of various cultural and entertainment programmes by its regular artists.
In one of such presentations, CPI leader Dr M Nara recited a poem entitled "Prakitina Tengthaba”, which is based on climate change and environment degradation.
The celebration also witnessed honouring of personalities who have attended Radio Nongin’s most famous programme “Nongin gi Tomthin'' 10 times and also the dedicated eight staff of the firm.
Delivering the chief guest speech, Hiyanglam AC MLA Y Radheshyam highlighted the brief history of radio which had its first ever broadcast in 1906 and the regular transatlantic radio-telegraph service which started in 1908.
As it was considered impossible, the broadcast was indeed a big surprise and boon to the masses, he said, adding it became the fastest mode of communication in that era.
He pointed out that after the introduction of digital media, radio faced big challenges. However, considering its potential and its uniqueness, radio is being listened to by the masses till date, he added.
Lauding the commendable services given to the masses since its establishment, the MLA wished Radio Nongin a great success.
Giving his keynote address, administrator of Radio Nongin, RK Nungthilchaibi, pointed out that the masses are considering radio as an outdated media in this present era of digital media.
In this regard, she apprised the masses to consider radio as a medium and a mechanism to upgrade the listening skill and a pot of knowledge.
The programme also witnessed entrepreneur Rajkumar Nongdrenkhomba Meetei, Lamlai AC MLA Khongbatabam Ibomcha and principal of Lilong Haoreibi College Raheijuddin Sheikh alias Shamu as presidium members.
