The Pumlen Yangbi Development Organisation (PYDO) and villagers on Monday sought a clarification on the statement recently made by MLA K Ranjit on the floor of the House alleging that big roads are constructed in the middle of Pumlen Pat in Kakching district thereby leading to degradation of the wetland.

There is only one road leading to the Pumlen Yangbi Village (84-A Pumlenpat) which was recognised by the Settlement and Revenue Department in the Gazette notification dated January 4, 1989, said vice-president of PYDO Ingamba Waikhom while speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club in Imphal.

He said, "The statement of the MLA portrays the villagers of Pumlen Yangbi as an anti-element in the conserving of the wetland."

Ingamba contended that Pumlen Yangbi village had been deprived from all the developmental works including proper power supply during the 15 years regime of the Congress government except for establishment of a school under SSA whose buildings have not been constructed till date.

Fortunately, after the inception of the BJP-led government and initiative of MLA Y Radheshyam and the members of ZP, the villagers have started witnessing developmental activities such as blacktopping of the only road leading to the village under MGNREGS and power connectivity, he added.

MLA Ranjit should give his clarification on the floor of the House by August 2, the vice-president said while threatening, "Failure to give clarification will lead the PYDO to imposition of indefinite bandh along the Wabagai-Sungnu road from August 3."
