Protesters storm Wangjing MLA Brojen's house, burn CM Biren’s effigy

Protesters demanded the resignation of Wangjing MLA Brojen and Chief Minister N Biren

People of Wangjing stormed the residence of Wangjing MLA Paonam Brojen after hearing the news of a Meetei commando being killed in a shootout with Kuki militants in the areas of Sugnu and Serou.

Protesters pelted stones at the MLA’s residence, demanding him to resign from his post. Some window panes were destroyed by the mob. They further protested by blocking Wangjing Heirok Lamkhai Road.

The irate agitators also burned the effigy of Chief Minister N Biren Singh at Wangjing Heirok Lamkhai in Thoubal district on Sunday.

People of Wangjing, Heirok, Lamding, Kairembikhok, Wangbal, Khangabok and Tentha burned the effigy condemning the CM for not taking up steps to bring a solution to the prevailing ethnic clash which has been 25 days since it broke out.

Speaking to the media, a protester condemned the CM for not taking up actions to end the clash which killed many innocent lives. Protesters also demanded CM Biren to resign from his post to end the issue.

Meanwhile, women of Wangbal, Thoubal district also protested by blocking the national highway and demanded to hand over arm weapons to them.

Women of Khangabok also carried out sit-in protest at Khangabok new market shed, demanding to repeal the SoO agreement with the Kuki militants and to save the territorial integrity of Manipur. Various placards were displayed by the protesters. 

The protesters observed a two-minute silence in honour of the lives lost in the ethnic clash.
