The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Tuesday came out in support of Congress MP Alfred Kanngam Arthur’s speech in the Parliament with MPCC working president Kh Devbrata stating that the Outer MP raised all the relevant issues like “avoidance of Manipur in Union Budget” to the importance of “leadership change in Manipur”.
While defending MP Alfred Kanngam Arthur, Devbrata said it is the duty of the Opposition parties to call out the failure of the ruling party. Devbrata said calling for leadership change may hurt the supporters of the Chief Minister, N Biren Singh, but it was a natural voice of Opposition and nothing more should be looked into.
Devbrata said Alfred Kanngam Arthur never called for dissolution of the government in the state; he was simply calling for a change as the current dispensation is not successful in solving the current issue.
To all the people protesting against AK Arthur’s speech, Kh Devbrata said the party stands fully in support of the new member of parliament and people of the state should now instead focused on other issues. Devbrata said protesting against a democratically elected MP speech for raising a relevant issue is highly uncalled for.
It may be mentioned that some civil society organisations like “My Manipur” have come out blazing all guns against the speech made by the Outer Manipur MP and they have even called for what they called “social boycott of Mr AK Arthur”.
While replying to ruling party allegations that the two new MPs belonging to the Congress party have failed to raise core issues concerning Manipur, Devbrata said it is impossible to raise all the issues in a few minutes time they got to speak.
