Womenfolk of Singjamei Bheigyabati Leikai in Imphal East staged a protest along the Singjamei-Kongba Road in Imphal East on Friday, demanding life imprisonment of the culprit behind the killing of Laishram ongbi Salam Ibetombi on FIFA World Cup 2022 Final , December 18.
One Ibetombi, 50, wife of L Birmani from Singjamei Bheigyabati Leikai died after being hit by a stray bullet on the night of December 18 at her residence while she was watching the FIFA World Cup Final, just as Argentina scored the winning penalty.
According to police, a suspect Khangembam Boby, whose residence is located opposite the deceased’s home, was arrested on Monday.

“As there have been no official statement from police that Boby was the killer, we demand immediate identification of the killer and life imprisonment,” said Samurailatpam Shikandar, who is the convenor of the JAC against the killing of Ibetombi.
He said the JAC had sealed all the property of the suspect, including his house, and has restricted access to the said properties without the permission of the JAC besides expelling all the family members of the suspect, Boby, from the locality, until they are found innocent.
Further demanding appropriate compensation to the deceased’s family, he said the JAC will continue the protest until their demands are fulfilled.
