A local group in Manipur on Thursday protested against the alleged threat to one Khekman Gram Panchayat ward member by an unidentified self-proclaimed member of an underground outfit over a phone call.
Condemning the threat, the Khekman Meira Paibi Apunba Lup on Thursday said Khekman Gram Panchayat ward member Sanasam Tomba recieved threat call made by an unidentified self-proclaimed member of an underground outfit.
The unidentified person allegedly threatened Sanasam Tomba in regard to an RTI filed by him concerning the allotment of relief funds related to the flood of 2017, Khekman Meira Paibi Apunba Lup secretary Asem Bino said.
She recalled that during the flood of 2017 necessary relief funds were allotted for both the villages under Lilong Sub Division, but only village No 8 Leishangthem received the facilities while village No 9 Khekman was denied the same.
Sanasam Tomba, representing the people, had filed the RTI to investigate the alleged biased allotment of the relief facility, she said, condemning the alleged threats and obstruction of a ward member in carrying out his responsibilities.
She urged the authorities concerned to investigate and identify the culprits to take up necessary action against them.
Recalling the alleged biased relief funds distribution, social worker Lourembam Sorokumar said, “Threatening of a ward member who was just doing his job is highly unreasonable. The state government should take up immediate action against those responsible behind the act”.
