The Manipur government has issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC, 1973 in the whole area situated within the revenue district of Bishnupur for a period of two months with effect from Saturday.
An order signed by the district magistrate Lourembam Bikram stated that the assembly of five or more persons which is likely to turn unlawful; carrying of sticks, stones, firearms without a valid license and weapons or objects of any description which can be used as offensive weapons are prohibited.
This order is directed to the public in general and shall not apply to the agencies of the government involved in the enforcement of law and order and the maintenance of essential services, it stated.
Persons desirous of taking out rallies or processions for socio-political, customary, religious objectives or for entertainment, involving the assembly of five or more persons within the scheduled area shall apply to the district magistrate for permission, it mentioned.
They shall not take out processions or rallies or cause such assembly of persons until permission is obtained by them, it added.
