Presidential Election: Mock drill conducted at Manipur Legislative Assembly

Two candidates - Draupadi Murmu from BJP will be representing the NDA and Yashwant Sinha from AITC will be representing the United Opposition in the 16th presidential election to be held on Monday.

A mock drill was conducted at the Manipur Legislative Assembly, Imphal on Sunday in connection with the 16th Presidential election of India which is scheduled to be held from 10 am to 5 pm on Monday.

The drill began from around 10 am with the participation of state BJP president A Sharda Devi, Chief Minister N Biren Singh and other BJP MLAs and other allied political parties of the NDA government.

Other than the five Congress MLAs, as many as 52 MLAs were seen during the drill while three MLAs did not take part in the drill as they had already taken leave for some personal work.

It is reported that the mock drill started from 10 am and continued till 2 pm.

There are speculations that other than five Congress MLAs, all the MLAs supporting the BJP might be casting their presidential votes in support of NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu.

Only two candidates will be contesting in the 16th presidential election. They are Draupadi Murmu from BJP who will be representing the NDA and Yashwant Sinha from AITC who will be representing the United Opposition.

To oversee the arrangements of polling and counting of the election, the ECI had appointed 37 Observers from among senior IAS officers holding the rank of additional secretary and joint secretary in the ministries.
