Pre-Poll Violence: Student bodies condemn Heirok firing that claimed one life

Six student bodies have strongly condemned the recent pre-poll violence at Heirok that left one student dead following a gunshot and have demanded that the culprits involved in the crime be punished.

A release on condemnation was jointly issued by the six student bodies namely Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), All Manipur Students Union (AMSU), Apunba Ireipaki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS), Students Union of Kangleipak (SUK), Kangleipak Students Association (KSA) and Manipuri Students Federation (MSF).

The release stated that the election related violence occurred at Heirok Tuesday night and led to one student being killed and many others being injured. The student bodies termed it unfortunate that such violence should occur due to election.

While condemning the attack on students in pre-poll violence, the student bodies informed that the victim has been identified as Ningthoujam Rohit and was pursuing BA 5th semester at Thoubal College. The injured, who is being treated at RIMS, is identified as Khundongbam Sanamacha, BA 5th Semester student at YK College.

The student bodies recalled that many election-related violence had occurred at Heirok and people from every section of society have been demanding for controlling such crime. On the contrary, crime has been increasing, leading to the death of students, the students said.

The student bodies demanded that the culprits be punished at the earliest.
