To promote the unique traditional attire of the northeastern states of India, the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) launched a two-day exclusive expo and interface titled “Potential Northeast 2024” at the Constitution Club of India, Rafi Marg, Delhi, on Friday.
The event was attended by Joyanta Basumatary, Lok Sabha MP from Kokrajhar, Assam; Jitendra Singh, deputy secretary general of PHDCCI and Bibhuti Dutt, resident director of PHDCCI, who served as chief guest, president, and guest of honor, respectively.
During the inaugural function, three coats manufactured from traditional fabrics design of ‘Leiroom Phi,’ ‘Saphi-Lanphi,’ and Naga Shawl were unveiled.
The designs for these coats were developed by Kangbam Bijaya Chanu, president of the North East Women’s Entrepreneur Association. The coats were stitched by the proprietor of Vasant LK Enterprise, who has applied for copyright protection.
Kangbam Bijaya Chanu said the idea behind designing these coats using traditional attire is to promote the traditional clothing of the northeastern states. She added that the designs aim to attract the international market and provide income opportunities for Manipuri women.
The three uniquely designed coats will also highlight the traditional and cultural heritage of the northeastern states of India, she added.
