Poppy plantation destroyed in Churachandpur

A combined team of Churachandpur district police, 1st Indian Reserve Battalion and Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB) destroyed a poppy plantation at the hills of Changpikot, Thingchom and Saidan Village under Saikot sub division on Wednesday morning.

As per a source from Churachandpur Police, the poppy plantation was destroyed in the presence of executive magistrate Salam Ibocha Singh.

The police source also said that the total area destroyed is estimated to be around 20 acres which may be approximately valued at Rs 1 crore. This was the second time the Churachandpur district police destroyed poppy plantations this year, it said.

The first was on February 1 when 18 acres of Poppy field were destroyed. There was no arrest on Wednesday but they have seized a sample of poppy for evidence, it added.
