Politicians alone cannot bring change: MAHUD Minister Y Khemchand
MAHUD Minister Y Khemchand addressed the 77th Hiroshima Day event organised by the Indo-Japan Friendship Association, Manipur in Imphal on Saturday.

MAHUD Minister Y Khemchand on Saturday said politicians alone cannot change the society and bring development, and stressed on the need for responsible citizens to bring positive changes and progress.
Khemchand was speaking as the chief guest during the observance of 77th Hiroshima Day which was organised by the Indo Japan Friendship Association, Manipur at Manipur Press Club in Imphal on Saturday.
A responsible citizen is defined by the level of sincerity, punctuality and patriotism, he said, informing that the level of sincerity by the citizens of SouthAsian countries like Singapore has reached another level.
Khemchand said the immense development witnessed in Hiroshima and Nagasaki after the atom bomb attacks is the result of Japanese citizens becoming more responsible.
Here in Manipur, the citizens are not even ready to vote for a candidate during elections if they are not paid, he added.
The minister lastly called upon the citizens to be responsible and extend support to the government in moving towards development.
During the event, president of the association Ph Nandakumar Sharma read out the Peace Declaration (2022) drafted by the Mayor of the City of Hiroshima Matsui Kazumi.
As many as 15 paintings were displayed in the Art for Peace Exhibition which was also organised as a part of the observance and prizes were also distributed to the winners of Children’s Art Competition organised earlier.
The function was also attended by Mayor of Imphal Municipal Corporation L Lokeshwar Singh as guest of honour.
