Political activist Sapamcha Kangleipal on Sunday announced the establishment of a common kitchen in the village of Thamnapokpi to provide meals for residents caught in the ongoing conflict with Kuki militants.
The announcement came during Kangleipal’s visit to the village, which has been under heavy assault since Saturday’s night, with reports of bombings and gunfire disrupting the community’s daily life.
Speaking to the media, Kangleipal expressed deep concern for the villagers, particularly as the violence has intensified during the critical harvest season.
“The situation is dire, and the people of Thamnapokpi are facing extreme hardships,”
Kangleipal said, adding, “We cannot allow the villagers to go without food during this crisis, especially when they are already grappling with the violence that has surrounded them.”
The common kitchen is set to begin operating the following day, initially catering to 100 individuals.
However, Kangleipal stated that the capacity would be expanded as needed, depending on the number of people requiring assistance.
The kitchen will provide vital sustenance for those living in the “Red Zone” areas, where access to basic supplies has become increasingly limited due to the ongoing conflict, he added.
