Contradicting claims of Manipur police not responding timely in Monday's incident at Koutruk and other areas of Imphal West district, a police statement said that several arms and ammunitions were recovered in follow-up operations.
The police PR stated, there was mobilisation of armed miscreants in many places which had seen intense conflict in the past. When the attack started in Koutruk, immediately IGP, DIG and SP and other police forces rushed into the area to counter the situation. Retaliatory firing and combing operations along with Army and Central Forces were conducted. PHQ also gave instruction to all senior formations and all District SsP to remain vigilant, alert all forces in their respective districts and conduct joint operation by coordinating with Central Forces.
All forces in all districts of the state were in alert mode throughout the night. Joint operations were conducted in border areas between Churachandpur and Kakching districts, Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts, Kangpokpi and Imphal West, Kangpokpi and Imphal East and Kakching and Tegnoupal, it added.
Such proactive measures based on solid intelligence by the police and central forces averted many untoward incidents on Monday night. Two police personnel were also injured in Monday's incident.
Later, the Police Department also received instructions from Home Department, Manipur to conduct operation in the bordering areas of Imphal West and the stretch from Keithelmanbi to Koutruk areas. Necessary action had already been taken. Combing operations are still being carried out.
The situation is being closely monitored and we appeal to the public to exercise restraint and cooperate with the Police.
Meanwhile, today (02.09.2024) in a similar bomb attack using drones at Senjam Chirang Maning Leikai, Imphal West District, three civilians were injured. Security forces are in the area to repulse the attack.
Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts.
During the search operations, 10 12-inch single bore barrel rifles, one improvised mortar, nine improvised mortar barrels, 20 gelatin sticks, 30 detonators, 10 metres of fuse, two country-made rockets, two Kg of lead shot, 94 fired cases, five radio sets, five radio set charger, four radio set adapters, two radio set spare batteries, four bullet proof harness (without plates) and one helmet from Kangchup Ponlen, Kangpokpi district; one drone from Kharam Vaiphei, Kangpokpi district; two SLR along with two magazine and one .32 pistol with magazine, 25 live ammunition rounds, two baofeng radio sets and two BP cover from Kakching Lamdong, Kakching district were recovered.
