AMSGO general secretary, Sumati Sougrakpam, in a release, demanded to immediately suspend the SI involved in the assault on a journalist as well as to compensate for the damages he caused. Such deliberate assault on a journalist performing his duty is ruthless and unethical, it alleged.

It also deplored the use of tear gas shells against the protesting displaced persons, which resulted in several injuries. A tear gas shell fired by the police exploded inside S Chaoba Memorial School, traumatising the students and teachers, it asserted. Some students even fainted from inhaling the fumes, it added.

It decried the excessive use of force by police and urged the chief minister to look into the matter. It further appealed to address the demands of the displaced persons and discuss the same during the ongoing assembly session so as to bring a solution at the earliest.
