The All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) on Tuesday announced that it will initiate action against agents of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) or individuals concerned if they fail to distribute the exact quantity of rice meant for the people.

There have been different incidents and complaints made by people in many parts of the state over the action of PMGKAY agents who distributed the rice as per their wishes, AMUCO stated in a release signed by secretary in charge Koijam Santosh Meitei.

However, there are hardly any individuals who can take action against such acts since the agents in the localities are well-known people who have close connection with those in power, AMUCO stated.

Mentioning that the people are aggrieved over the involvement of local clubs with the agents in such illegal acts, AMUCO appealed to all local clubs concerned to avoid getting involved in such acts in the future.

Many local clubs have volunteered to extend support to the government by forming a local-level joint Covid task force, the release stated. However, the state government took time to give response and recognise the dedication of the volunteers, it added.

AMUCO also pointed out that such an act of the government can dishearten the spirit of the local clubs and it may also be a factor for the rise of Covid cases. It also appealed to the authorities concerned to encourage such local clubs or volunteers and help them in any possible ways.
