PM Narendra Modi accuses Congress of looting people of Manipur, says BJP will give 'sunshine of development'

The Prime Minister virtually addressed a public rally organised by the BJP Manipur at Khangabok, Thoubal district.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday accused the then Congress government in both the Centre and the state of looting the people of Manipur during the regime and depriving the state of peace and development. He said that the BJP will give “sunshine of development" in Manipur.

The Prime Minister was virtually addressing a public rally organised by the BJP Manipur at Khangabok, Thoubal district.

Modi, in his speech, also mentioned that the state was known for “Mr 10 per cent” in terms of corruption during the Congress rule. This is how the Congress treated the people of Manipur in the past, he added.

The PM also accused the Congress of playing politics of ‘divide and rule policy’ in the name of hills and valleys. “Let us stay alert from the Congress. Let us not give any chances to Congress who have deteriorated the whole state in the past,” he added.

Asserting that former Prime Minister (L) Atal Bihari Vajpayee started giving special focus to the Northeast for its development, he said that unfortunately after the inception of the UPA government in the Centre the Northeast remained neglected in all aspects.

With the coming of the BJP-led government in the Centre and the state, various developmental works and projects have been taken up in Manipur, he said, adding the Act East Policy is also giving a new impetus to the development of Manipur.

Contending that the door of the government ran by BJP is always widely opened to the public, Modi cited the organising of programmes and missions like Meeyagi Numit,Hill Leader’s Day, Go to Hills, Go to Village conducted under the leadership of Chief Minister N Biren besides making Manipur a bandh and blockade free state.

“It shows the concern of BJP for the people of Manipur,” he said, adding the BJP goes with the ideology of “Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas Sabka Vishwas aur Sabka Prayas.”      

Modi also highlighted the importance of various welfare schemes such as start-up scheme, Jal Jeevan mission, Ayushman Bharat and others in the overall development of the state.

The Prime Minister also promised to sanction a sum of Rs 100 crore as fund for start-up scheme, create two special economic zones, and establish a Manipur Skill University and AIIMS.

Mentioning that Manipur has the quality of exceptional sportsmanship and has been producing prominent sports personalities like Mary Kom and Mirabai Chanu, Modi said that the double engine government introduced the Manipur Sports University which will be an international level sports institute.

Paying honour to noted freedom fighters of Manipur like Rani Gaidinliu, Haipou Jadonang, Thangal General, Maharaj Bhagya Chandra, Paona Brajabashi among others, he lashed out at the Congress for not recognising those prominent leaders of Manipur who had shaped and glorified Manipur.

Promising that the BJP will give the “sunshine of development” in Manipur, Modi appealed to the people of the state to continue giving their support and blessing to the double engine government.

“Let us vote for peace, development and welfare of Manipur,” the Prime Minister added.
