Celebrating the 75th years of God’s blessings, a four-day long platinum jubilee celebration of Rongdai Baptist Church began under the theme ‘Christ is Pre-Eminent in All’ on Saturday.
Executive secretary Rongmei Naga Baptist Church Association, (RNBA) Rev Mansi Gangmei and Chairman Mission Board RNBA, Rev Sangailung Gangmei attended as minister and speaker respectively.
Candles lighting, flag hoisting and opening of ‘Jubilee Monument Stone’ led by Rev Mansi Gangmei, and release of souvenir, drum beating by Rongdai Village elders, songs, choirs and presentation of gifts for dignitaries were the main highlights of the programme.
The occasion was earlier planned to be celebrated in 2019 but rescheduled to December 17-20 due to the pandemic.
The words, “Leaving behind those foibles that had kept us weak in the days past, in hope we now run fast towards the goal of our calling” from the book of Hebrew in the Bible, chapter 12:1 were inscribed on the Jubilee Stone.
The name Bwanruanghdai was christened by the founding members of the village, signifying that it originated from Bwanruang (the legendary land of Meiriangc and Lubuanei) and envisioned to make it mightier and grander than the old Bwanruang.
Truly this village lives up to the dream envisioned by its founding forefathers with a population of 1,100 approximately. Later, Bwanruangdai was rechristened as ‘Rongdai’.
Christianity came to the village in 1944 through the evangelists from Luangba village. Zeidailin Gangmei and his mother Gaichungliu became the first converts. From 1944 onwards, the church has been growing steadily and four pastors have served the Church to this date.
The Church’s Golden Jubilee was celebrated in 1995 and consummate conversion and Passover celebration was held in November 1999.
