The Lions Clubs of Imphal in collaboration with the Epathoukok on Friday observed Earth Day 2022 at the Epathoukok complex in Lamphelpat, Imphal West. Planting of saplings at the complex marked the event.
Speaking on climate change, joint director of Environment and Climate Change T Brajakumar said that deforestation is the main factor behind drying up of lakes and rivers. He said that the department of Environment and Climate Change is taking up various afforestation programmes.
Delivering the chief guest speech, district governor (elect), District 322D of Lions Club, W Gopimohan said that industrialisation in developed countries leads to rapid increase in pollution rate and climate change.
Retired BOSEM secretary Salam Nabachandra stressed the need for the participation of every individual to regain the eco-system and a balanced environment.
