The Opposition party’s voice calling for a special session to debate on the endless and perpetual ongoing crisis of the state to road-map a solution was neglected by the House, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra said on Monday.

“It has been a long standing demand from five opposition MLAs. This time too, a private member resolution was put up but rejected”, the Congress president said during a press conference held on Monday at the Congress Bhawan.

Opposition members in the Manipur legislative Assembly staged a walkout on Friday after their five private members’ resolutions, proposing that the House resolve to urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to engage in a comprehensive dialogue with the state assembly members to address the current crisis in Manipur, were rejected by the Speaker.

Meghachandra said that in a week there is timing on Friday for a private resolution. Taking that time, the five MLAs of opposition submitted a private resolution but was rejected. That is why, the MLAs raised their voice during the zero hour, the Congress leader said, adding that even if they raised their voice, no response came from the speaker side.

He informed that each of the five MLAs of the opposition submitted a private resolution including a joint notice, upon which they verbally move for a private resolution in the House.

The proposed resolution was, “Having felt the absolute and urgent necessity, this House resolves unanimously that the Prime Minister of India should have a thorough discussion with the Members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly regarding the endless and perpetual crisis in the State of Manipur to bring peace, normalcy, harmony, and safety for the people of Manipur who are citizens of the country.”

“We believe that open discussion on the ongoing issues is crucial, and the exclusion of our voices undermine the principles of fair and democratic dialogue”, said Meghachandra.

The five MLAs tried from every angle but were neglected and rejected and that is why they walked out from the House, Meghachandra said.

They also submitted a notice to the speaker for resentment and protest for ignoring their opinion.
