Tamenglong district in Manipur is falling far behind to achieve the target of vaccinating 62,205 people with only 30,293 persons vaccinated til date.
The Medical department has vaccinated as many as 19,931 persons with the first dose and 10,362 persons with the second dose so far.
Sharing this to the Imphal Free Press, district immunisation officer Tamenglong and nodal officer on COVID-19 Dr Sunil Kamei said that the district vaccination achievement is very low compared with other districts of Manipur.
He was speaking on the sidelines of a special COVID-19 vaccination drive held at five different churches in Tamenglong district headquarters on Sunday.
The five churches are Zeliangrong Baptist Church, Bathel Baptist Church, Zeme Naga Baptist Church and Taodai Fellowship.
During the drive, a total of 130 persons were vaccinated. Of the total, at least 53 were vaccinated with the first dose while 77 beneficiaries were given the second dose.
COVID-19 nodal officer Sunil Kamei further said that the district had marked 62,205 as the targeted number of beneficiaries to be vaccinated.
The reason for low achievement could be due to hesitancy on getting the vaccine. He said that many people still have hesitancy in getting vaccinated due to different kinds of rumours and the resultant fear.
However, after giving advocacy on the vaccine, many have started accepting it and getting vaccinated, he added.
He fervently appealed to the citizens of Tamenglong not to believe in rumours and misinformation, and not to be afraid of getting Covid vaccinated.
Meanwhile, positive cases in Tamenglong district dipped to five on Sunday. The cumulative number of positive cases is 3,198 while the cumulative number of recovered cases is 3,180.
