An online awareness programme on ‘Right to Education Act (RTE)’ was organised on Sunday by District Legal Service Authority Tamenglong in collaboration with Manipur State Legal Service Authority under the aegis of National Legal Service Authority as part of Pan India Awareness and Special Outreach campaign of legal services.
Through video conferencing, the para legal volunteers of Legal Aid Clinic, Tamenglong interacted with the students of Tamenglong.
During the interaction session, advocate L Pinky pointed out that free and compulsory education for children between the age group of 6 to 14 years has been implemented in India under Article 21A of the Indian Constitution.
Free school uniforms, free textbooks, mid-day meals and others are provided under the Right to Education Act, she added.
She further stated that under the provision of RTE Act, schools and institutions must have separate toilets for boys and girls. Moreover, schools must have proper drinking water facilities.
RTE is enacted in India in order to bring equality among every student, boy or girl, rich or poor so that the children, who are considered as future pillars of the society, are given proper education, she added.
Civil judge (Junior Division) cum judicial magistrate (First Class) Noney, Leonid Ahanthem also attended the programme and spoke on RTE Act.
