One-day public consultation on drug abuse and its mitigation held in Churachandpur

KSO Churachandpur general secretary L Minlal Gangte says they have rounded up around 400 youths since March 2022 with some of them released after counselling.

A one-day public consultation on Drug Abuse & its Mitigation with CSOs, Churches, Village Authority and Youth Club was organised on Saturday by Kuki Student Organization, Churachandpur at KIC Hall, Tuibong.

The participants and other experts, including Additional SP Hasby Haokip; Chairperson of the HEGreen Foundation trust Hegin Tungdim; Pastor Onkho Haokip; presidents of KKL GHQ, KIC, KSO Churachandpur and others deliberated on the ways and means to mitigate drugs abuse which was not like in the 80's  but now involves women and children as young as high school students. 

On the side-line of the public consultation, KSO Churachandpur general secretary L Minlal Gangte informed of their activities saying that it was time to find a solution as cases are rising and rampant among teenagers which was the product of Covid-19 pandemic. He said that they have rounded up around 400 youths since March 2022 with some of them released after counselling.

Gangte also said that the scenario now is such that drug users are the peddlers and even youths are employed as peddlers for money by the drug suppliers. He said that they will burn some of the WY tablets and Brown sugar that they seized by today to create awareness.
