One arrested, suspected opium seized in Senapati

Based on a tip-off regarding the movement of illegal items from Tollen Village to Mollen Village, a joint team of commando Thoubal Police and 16 AR conducted the inspection drive at Salam Patong.

As a part of the ongoing drive on ‘War On Drugs’, Thoubal Police arrested one suspected drug peddler and seized 8.9 kg of suspected opium at Salam Patong, Senapati district on Friday, sources said.

The sources said that the arrested individual had been identified as one Satminthang Kipgen alias Minthang, 32, son of Lalsat Kipgen of Ningel Mollen Village in Kangpokpi district.

Based on a tip-off regarding the movement of illegal items from Tollen Village to Mollen Village, a joint team of commando Thoubal Police and 16 AR conducted the inspection drive at Salam Patong, it added.

The inspection team was led by additional SP (Ops) Thoubal under the supervision of SP Thoubal Jogeshchandra Haobijam, it mentioned.

By observing due formalities, the team arrested the suspect and seized 8.9 kg of suspected opium along with a sum of Rs 2,81,900 which is suspected to be proceeds of drug trade from his Micra car with registration number MN01G 7056, sources said.

The arrested person and the seized items were handed over to Nongpok Sekmai Police station and a case has been registered awaiting further necessary actions, it added.
