Manipur Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo on Sunday said that the establishment of the ‘Olympian Park’ at Sangaithel, which is one of its kind in the country, indicates that the present BJP government has a unique vision on promotion of sports in Manipur.
He was speaking during the closing ceremony of “Lamlai Kendra Village Wise 9 A-side Men’s Open football tournament, 2023” held at Lamlai, Imphal East district on Saturday.
He said after witnessing the potential and spirit of sportspersons of Manipur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed to the establishment of the National Sports University in the state. Many sports persons can be produced at international level not only from Manipur but also from across the country with the help of the university, he said and called on the sportspersons of Manipur to take the opportunity of the National Sports University.
Promoting international woman football player, Ng Bala Devi, by the Biren-led government shows that the state government is concerned for the sportspersons of the state, said Dingo.
Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, Lamlai assembly constituency MLA Kh Ibomcha also attended the function as dais members.
