Manipur Health Minister Sapam Ranjan has asserted that officials breaking the chain of responsibility in various state departments is one of the key factors contributing to the failure in scheme implementation.

The minister was speaking on Monday at the launching programme of Anaemia Free Manipur and poster release event held at the College of Nursing in Lamphelpat. The programme was jointly organised by the Directorate of Health Services and State Health Mission, NHM, Manipur.

The health minister further exhorted officials not to neglect their chain of duty and assure all schemes undertaken reaches the respective beneficiaries. “All departments must coordinate to ensure strict implementation of government policies,” he said.

On the occasion, Ranjan maintained that a plan of action to mitigate any disease cannot be meted out within the confines of an office room. Officials must go to the grassroot level and organise programmes to spread awareness among the masses, he added.

Pointing out that cases of Anaemia in the state have doubled based on recent surveys, Ranjan stated all health workers from the top to the bottom must synchronize their work ethics. He said lack of awareness is a trait common to people living in both rural and urban areas. As such, the health minister exhorted people to adopt good living habits and follow the timely advice of health workers.

In his presidential address, Additional chief secretary of Health and Family Welfare, Vumlunmang Vualnam, emphasised the role of healthcare providers in raising anaemia awareness and maintained that it is the primary duty of the educated health officials to enlighten every citizen of Manipur.

He further advised officials of the nursing college to include such awareness programmes as a part of the curriculum.

During the programme, the minister launched the poster for Anaemia Free Manipur campaign under which an intensification campaign will be organised in the first week of every month.

Social Welfare director Ngangom Uttam, Director of Health Services Manipur Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang and State Health Mission Director Somorjit Ningombam among others were also present at the event.
