As Nupee Lal Numit 20222 was observed in Manipur on Monday, Chief Minister N Biren Singh called upon all to "follow the path of our brave Imas (mothers), who stood up against injustice and fought for a prosperous and peaceful state".
"Remembering our great Imas on this Nupee Lal Numit. Their courage and sacrifice to stand against the exploitative British imperialism will always continue to inspire us. Since time immemorial, the women of Manipur have always been at the forefront on any of the social issues," Biren tweeted on Monday.
Earlier, in his message on the eve of Nupee Lal Numit, Biren mentioned the continuing vital roles of the womenfolk in various aspects of the society, including sports, administration, medicine, entrepreneurship, art and culture of the state.
“Kunjarani Devi, Mary Kom, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, Pukhrambam Sushila Chanu and Linthoi Chanambam are a few of our sportswomen who have shone bright in the international stage and demonstrated the courage and strength of our women,” he added.
Manipur observes Nupee Lal Numit every year as a tribute to the courage and sacrifice of Manipuri women who strongly revolted against the policies of the then rulers in 1939 on this day, December 12.
