The NSCN-K (Yung Aung) and ULFA-I on Tuesday announced that they will boycott the Indian Independence Day celebrations on August 15 in Nagaland, Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.

India has no sovereign right whatsoever to unfurl her flag in the ‘Western South East Asia WESEA’ region, including Indian-occupied Kashmir, while the land and people are reeling under her brutal military occupation for the last 75 years, stated a joint release issued by MIP in charge retired colonel Joseph.

Under the present circumstances, it is politically and historically illegal and unjust for India to continue celebrating its pretentious Independence Day in the region, it stated.

It is a clear historical fact that India's political and military aggression and greed has transformed this once peaceful region into a killing zone, it alleged.  In the long struggle for political freedom the people have suffered tremendous atrocities in the hands of the Indian authorities namely - its government, military and intelligence services, it further stated. Hence, the illegal occupation is an act of aggression which is a violation of international laws, it added.

It mentioned that on July 19, 1947 Mahatma Gandhi assured the Naga delegation under the then NNC, “Nagas have their history and have every right to be independent. If you don't want to stay with India, nobody will force you to do that.... I will come to the Naga hills; will ask them to shoot me first before one Naga is shot.”

The Nagas reaffirmed their demand for freedom through the plebiscite of May 16, 1951 which led to the boycott of the first General election of 1952, it stated.

On the eve of the Independence of the British-occupied India, Mahatma Gandhi also declared that, "Assam must be independent and autonomously governed,” it further stated. But under the changed circumstances, Colonial India betrayed hundreds of sovereign and princely states and forced them to join the Union of India, it mentioned. Hence, it is a historical fact that the Indian Union is born out of an illegal wed-lock, forced merger agreements and betrayals, it added.

“India's desperate efforts to crush our legitimate struggle will bear no result because we will never-ever surrender our land and our historical rights. We will continue to resist with all possible options to protect our rights and we will continue to stand by our commitment to the very end,” it mentioned.

It appealed to all the people of ‘WESEA region’ to support the boycott call and show solidarity by refraining from the imposed celebration.
