Women vendors of Wangjing Lamding Keithel in Thoubal district on Wednesday demonstrated a sit-in protest, condemning the lack of a proper sanitation facility and dustbins in the market. They demanded immediate attention of the authorities concerned to address the issue at the earliest.
Speaking at the event, one Khundrakpam Bisodiya said that the Wangjing Lamding Keithel is one of the largest markets in Thoubal district, as it has become a hub for the nearby villagers as well as the peoples travelling the Imphal-Moreh road. Since the existing toilet had been non-functional for more than a year, it has become extremely inconvenient for the elderly women shopkeepers, she added.
She mentioned that though the Wangjing Lamding Municipal Council has been requested to construct the lavatory, no action had been taken up yet. She urged for the support of the people on the issue stating that the demand is for the wellbeing of the public.
During the protest, the protesters shouted slogans such as ‘construct toilets at Wangjing Lamding Keithel’, ‘provide dustbins at Wangjing Lamding Keithel’, etc.
