Jessami, Namrei and Nungpi areas in Manipur's Ukhrul district have been reeling under shutdown in power supply from the 33 kv power sub-stations in the area since Saturday.
When the Imphal Free Press spoke to some villagers on Sunday, one of them said, “If the paucity of manpower is the factor, the department concerned must ensure that adequate staff is recruited and posted at the particular sub stations so that no students and locals suffer because of poor power supply”.
The villagers in the area urged the electricity department concerned to ensure regular power supply to the villages.

When this IFP correspondent attempted to contact the Manipur State Power Company Distribution Limited (MSPDCL) Ukhrul on Sunday but they could not be reached.
Recently, people in Ukhrul district were deprived of regular power supply for three consecutive days with two electricity poles reportedly found fallen at Shimtang village in the district.
When IFP enquired the manager of the MSPDCL Sothing Kashung, he informed that two electric poles near Shimtang village in Ukhrul were reportedly found fallen and was the sole reason why power cut was faced in Ukhrul.
Reliable sources told the IFP that there is no office of the MSPCL in Ukhrul and Kamjong district. “The non-existence of the office has been one of the major issues in ensuring regular power supply to the populace of the two districts,” the sources said.

Providing power supply from 132KV main line starting from Yaingangpokpi to Hundung cement factory is the responsibility of the Manipur State Power Corporation Limited (MSPCL) in addition to providing backup line to 33 KV line from Litan to Hundung cement factory in Ukhrul district, the sources said.
Regular power supply to the 33 kv line, starting from Hundung to Talui sub-station, Ukhrul sub-station, Namrei sub-station, Nungbi sub-station and Jessami power sub-station is also their responsibility. Ensuring power supply of 11 KV from any of the power houses to village transformers is to be handled by the Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL), the sources added.
Once the power supply reaches the power house, all the remaining responsibilities including light, transformer, households connection and revenue issues have to be duly taken care of by the MSPDCL, as per sources.
