Manipur Tribal Affairs and Hills Minister Letpao Haokip on Wednesday said that there is no plan to revive National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC) as of now.
He was responding to a starred question by MLA Paolienlal Haokip on the floor of the house who asked whether the government has plans to revive the Manipur Tribal Development Corporation. The NSTFDC was to uplift the SC and ST and is there any plan to revive it, he asked.
Responding to this, the minister said that the sincerity of people decreases after taking a loan and they do not pay back. During 1993-95, people took a loan of Rs 6.68 crore and the state government paid back their loan in one time. So, the scheme was stopped as it was causing apprehension to the state government of the people not paying back, the minister said.
If it is to be restored, a systematic plan is required so that it does not put burden on the state government, he said, adding that if anyone like MLA or government service person becomes a guarantor, then it will not cause apprehension to the government.
