No additional troops being sent to state: Manipur Police

MHA had ordered for some companies of CAPF for deployment in Manipur for law-and-order duty, and 288 companies of CAPF in total are being deployed in the state, stated a release.

The Police Control Room, Manipur Police on Friday clarified that 10,000 more soldiers being sent by the Centre, as reported by the media, are not are not additional deployment, but as ordered earlier by MHA.

MHA had ordered for some companies of CAPF for deployment in Manipur for law-and-order duty, and 288 companies of CAPF in total are being deployed in the state, stated a release.

It mentioned that the situation in the state was tense but under control during the last 24 hours.
Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts, it stated.

On Friday, Manipur Police further arrested two persons namely Khumukcham Raman Singh (45) and (Keithellakpam Robi Singh (29) in connection with the damage/ arson of properties of elected members on November 16, in addition to the 32 persons arrested earlier, it mentioned.

Movement of 375 nos, of vehicles carrying essential items along NH-2 has been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and a security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.

A total of 105 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and no one was detained by Police in connection with violations in different districts of the state, it said.
