Ningthoujam Popilal, who was recently arrested in a case and granted interim bail, took charge as Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC) president on Monday.
The charge of MPYCC president was officially handed over to Popilal by former MPYCC president N Mahananda on Monday during a programme held at Congress Bhawan in Imphal.
The programme was attended by MPCC office bearers, AICC members and others.
Twenty-eight-year-old Popilal was appointed as new MPYCC president the day after he attended a controversial discussion programme hosted by a local TV channel.
On February 17, the new MPYCC president was granted interim anticipatory bail in connection with the FIR registered against him at Lamphel Police Station for an alleged attempt to murder members of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha on February 9.
