The Joint Action Committee of National Highway 37 Expansion Affected Landowners’ Association on Saturday alleged that a joint assessment survey conducted at Nungba was “table-worked” secretly by Nungba SDO staff in the absence of real land owners.
A joint statement issued by the JAC stated that an order issued by the deputy commissioner Noney on December 30, Ref. NO. 11/01/DC(NNY)/NH & R/2018/03, detailed SDO Nungba (Team Leader), DFO (Forest), EE PWD Noney Division, DO (H&SC), AO (Agriculture) and Representative of NHIDCL as members respectively to conduct a joint assessment survey on January 5, 2023.
The survey was to be conducted for assessing the left out properties including graveyard and collateral damages during cutting of a 2-lane with paved shoulder on NH-37 from chainange no101+280 to 131+280 between Khongsang and Kambiron, Nungba Sub Division, Noney district, it stated.
Despite SDO Nungba being entrusted and designated as team leader of the joint assessment survey, the 4 grade staff of SDO Nungba lead the team which “maliciously and intentionally excluded many of the rightful land affected beneficiaries once again with their fake/fraudulent beneficiaries list,” it alleged.
“The said 4 Grade SDO staff sided with the illicit (illegitimate) chairman against the Gazetted and authenticated chairman Gaibilung Kamei,” it further alleged.
The joint assessment survey which was meant to happen on the field was easily “table-worked” at the interest of some corrupt SDO staff in the absence of real land affected owners by skipping and leaving all genuine sites and structures which will be damaged by widening of the Highway, it further stated.
The joint assessments survey at Nungba was processed at the whims and fancies of the SDO staff secretly without really surveying at the ground, it further alleged.
It is unfortunate to see such corrupt practices being repeated time and again by neglecting and ignoring the victims of land acquisition, it mentioned.
The JAC draws kind attention and requested the deputy commissioner Noney to initiate necessary action against the officials and re-conduct the joint survey in the presence of all affected beneficiaries at soon as possible or face a wave of democratic agitation, it added.
