The police investigation into the death of Charubala, wife of former MLA Yamthong Haokip, has revealed some new findings which has raised suspicions over the cause of her death.
Charubala succumbed to her injuries after a blast occurred at Ekou Mullam under Saikul Police Station’s jurisdiction in Kangpokpi district on Sunday at around 3 pm.
Initial reports now suggest that the explosion may not have been the cause of death. On the day of the incident, several butane gas canisters were found at the site where waste materials were being burned. Police are investigating the possibility that the splinter that injured Charubala could have come from a nozzle of a butane gas canister.
A team from Saikul Police Station has collected the splinter sample for analysis at the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in Kamrup, Guwahati.
It may be mentioned that Charubala and her daughters were cleaning a newly purchased property, which they had recently bought from Yamthong’s nephew, when the explosion occurred.
She was initially taken to CHC Saikul and later transferred to Shija Hospital at 7 pm due to severe bleeding. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries at 11.5 pm.
