Manipuri Literary and Cultural Forum, Tripura along with Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF), Manipur organised a National Seminar on Manipuri Language, Literature and Culture at Sahitya Akademi Hall, Najarul Kalakshetra Complex, Agartala, Tripura on Sunday.
Famed Tripura-based writer and scholar, Wangkhem Biramangal was the moderator of the seminar, during which four papers were discussed.
S Inumgochouba spoke on the topic ‘Manipuri Nationalismgi ihou sagatpada Leibak Nimgba Esheina Peeriba Ithil’, while Langoljam Biramangal stressed on ‘Tripurada Meeteisingna Khundatakpa amasung houjikki phibhan’.
The seminar also saw Lairenjam Jamuna giving valuable insights on ‘Manipuri Khunnaida Yek Salai amasung Mingou and a speech by Khoisnam Birola on the topic ‘Tripura Meetei Khunaida Chatnariba Chatnabising.
Speaking at the event, PAWF, Manipur secretary Rakesh Naorem said that the seminar was held in Tripura as part of the ongoing initiative to identify the Meeteis residing in Manipur, Assam, Tripura, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Shillong and various places across the World.
He asserted that the seminar will facilitate in inculcating the historical, cultural and traditional significance of Tripura and Manipur among the youths. He also mooted that organising such seminars will further instill the values and ways of Meetei tradition.
Taking part in the event, Sahitya Akademi Awardee, Sorokhaibam Gambhini, lamented over the decline in moral values among the Meeteis and stressed the need for effective teaching of moral Science subject to the upcoming youths.
She added that decline of moral values in a society will affect the existing culture and tradition of the society and further highlighted the significance of possessing good moral values for the betterment of the society.
Speaking on the sidelines, PAWF, Manipur President, Naoroibam Khamba Luwang pointed out the declining population of the Meeteis in Manipur as well as in Assam, Tripura, Myanmar and Bangladesh.
He emphasised the need for the people to consider the same and strive for measures for repopulating the community to safeguard it.
Member of Manipuri Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, Khoisnam Birola; advisor of Manipuri Literary and Cultural Forum, Tripura, TK Tarunjit and Forum Secretary, Khoisnam Mangal were present at the programme.
